The males turn this lovely blue on their abdomen after fully maturing. When cooled they turn a deep purple. They live above any kind of still water such as ponds, lakes, marshes, and bogs. In this shot, his wings are beginning to tear around the edges from age. He is sitting atop a cluster of red and green lily pads.
That's a very cool bug. My favorite kind of art is the kind that appears to be organic, and the most miraculous organic artist would have to be mother nature. I love the wings and the pattern on its tail. Well done.
