Common Green Darner Dragonfly (Anax junius)
Location: North America
Range: United States edging into Canada.

The males turn this lovely blue on their abdomen after fully maturing. When cooled they turn a deep purple. They live above any kind of still water such as ponds, lakes, marshes, and bogs. In this shot, his mate can be seen in the background. They are sitting atop a cluster of red and green lily pads.
